First impressions report

Information for practitioners and service commissioners. First Impressions was commissioned in early 2004, in order to look at the emotional and practical needs of families who have a small child – aged up to five – with a learning disability.

It found that while some families do get a great deal of support and information, from a sensitive diagnosis onwards, others have to fight for a diagnosis in the first place and are then left to cope very much on their own.
